Why the choice of rose actually matters
A bouquet of roses is rarely just flowers. The stem count, the colour, the head size — each detail lands differently on the person receiving it. Getting those details right is what separates a memorable gesture from a generic one. This guide walks through every variable so you can decide quickly and order with confidence, whether you're sending to a penthouse on Palm Jumeirah or an office in Business Bay.
Varieties we work with: large-head vs. spray roses
At SENTION we work with two distinct rose families for Dubai deliveries.
Large-head garden roses
These are the roses most people picture: a single stem, one prominent bloom, full and round. Grown at altitude in Ecuador and Colombia, they arrive in Dubai with heads that measure 5–7 cm across and stems cut to 60–70 cm. That stem length is significant — it gives a bouquet authority in a tall vase and ensures the blooms sit above the waterline, away from bacterial buildup. Our 50 Red Roses, 50 White Roses, and the rest of the single-colour bundles are built around this format.
Spray roses
A spray rose produces several smaller blooms per stem, each head roughly 2–3 cm. The effect is layered and abundant — less architectural than a large-head arrangement, but richer in texture. Three names in our current Dubai range show the range of what spray roses can do: Spray roses Solineri leans soft and romantic, Spray roses Dinara brings a cooler, more structured feel, and Spray roses mix combines tones for a less formal result. All three are 590 AED.
Stem length and head size: what the numbers mean for you
Stem length affects proportion. A 70 cm stem in a low bowl looks awkward; a 40 cm stem in a tall cylinder vase disappears. When you're ordering for a large dining table centrepiece — common at gatherings in Dubai Marina or Downtown apartments — you want length. For a desk arrangement or a bedroom side table, shorter stems or spray roses fill the space better without overpowering it.
Head size correlates with visual density. Fifty large-head roses in a single colour create a tight, almost monolithic block of colour. Fifty spray-rose stems in the same vase would give you three to four times as many blooms, producing something closer to a garden cloud than a formal arrangement. Neither is superior — they serve different aesthetics and different rooms.
Colour meaning: a practical guide, not a rulebook
Colour carries weight in Dubai's multicultural social landscape. What reads as romantic in one context reads as respectful in another. Use this as a starting point, not a rigid code.
- Red — the clearest declaration of romantic intention. Our 50 Red Roses at 500 AED work for anniversaries, Valentine's Day, and any moment where ambiguity is the last thing you want.
- White — associated with sincerity, new beginnings, and respect across many cultures present in Dubai. Appropriate for congratulating a new home, a promotion, or welcoming someone to the city.
- Pink — warm without being declarative. Suitable for birthdays, thank-you gestures, and friendships you want to mark without reading into.
- Hot pink — more energetic and expressive than soft pink. Works well for celebrations, especially for someone whose personal style runs bold.
- Cream — refined and understated. Often the right choice for corporate gifting, condolences, or any setting where restraint signals taste rather than distance.
When you're genuinely unsure, cream and soft pink are the safest pivots. They carry warmth without specificity.
How many stems: matching quantity to occasion
Stem count is the easiest variable to miscalibrate. Too few stems in a large Dubai villa entrance hall reads as an afterthought. Too many sent to a compact JBR apartment can feel overwhelming.
- Under 25 stems — intimate, personal. Works for a single room, a desk, a bathroom ledge. Best expressed through spray rose arrangements, where individual stems carry more visual weight.
- 50 stems — the standard for a considered, full gesture in the Dubai market. It fills a medium vase properly, photographs well, and reads as deliberate without tipping into excess. All five of our single-colour rose bundles sit at this count and 500 AED.
- 100 stems and above — suited to event settings, grand entrances, or statements you genuinely want to make loudly. For this scale, browse our premium catalogue for combinations that work at volume.
For most private occasions — a birthday, an anniversary, a thank-you to a host in Deira or a colleague in Downtown — 50 stems is the number that lands without requiring an explanation.
How to judge freshness before you order
You can't squeeze a petal through a screen, but there are signals worth checking when reviewing any florist's product imagery and practices.
- Petal tightness — buds that are fully open at the time of photographing have less vase life ahead of them. Look for blooms that are partially open: you want to watch them unfurl.
- Leaf condition — yellowing or wilted lower leaves in a product image are a red flag regardless of how good the blooms look.
- Stem ends — when your bouquet arrives, the cut ends should be clean and pale green or white, not brown or soft. Re-cut them at a 45-degree angle immediately and place in fresh water.
- Water temperature — in Dubai's climate, room-temperature water can accelerate bacterial growth. Use slightly cooler water and change it every two days.
- Placement — keep roses away from direct air conditioning drafts and from fruit bowls. Ethylene gas from ripening fruit shortens a rose's life considerably.
Spray roses vs. large-head roses: which to send
The honest answer is that the occasion and the recipient's space should make this decision for you.
Send large-head roses — red, white, pink, hot pink, or cream — when you want the message to be unmistakable and the visual impact to be immediate. They suit formal occasions, landmark moments, and recipients who appreciate a classic arrangement.
Send spray roses when the recipient has an eye for detail, when the space calls for something with more movement and texture, or when you're combining flowers with other elements on a table. The Spray roses mix is particularly useful when you want warmth without a single dominant colour taking over the room.
Ordering for Dubai: a few practical notes
We deliver across Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, Business Bay, JBR, and Deira. If you're ordering for a building with a strict reception policy — common in Marina and Downtown towers — include the recipient's full name and unit number at checkout. For large lobbies or event venues, coordinating a specific arrival window with the concierge before placing the order makes the handover significantly smoother.
